At 729 feet high Amicalola Falls is the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi in the eastern United States. A brisk, short but steep climb up to the falls up the trail to the Amicalola Falls will reward you with an incredibly close view and experience of the beautiful Amicalola Falls and the breathtaking mountain vistas. The name Amicalola is translated from the Cherokee word for tumbling waters.

Amicalola Falls tumbles down into a pond where children and adults love to fish.

The visitor's center features live exhibits of mostly snakes and a gift shop along with educational exhibits and guides about the Georgia Mountains, terrain and wildlife.

Amicalola Falls State Park is a magical place in the North Georgia Mountains where nature and beauty are to be explored and enjoyed. Hike the scenic trails at Amicalola Falls State Park. Pack a picnic and enjoy a lunch or snack beside the tumbling waters at a picnic table. FBe sure to drive up the road to Amicalola Lodge and enjoy the view along with a buffet meal.

Amicalola Falls State Park is located on GA 52 in between Dahlonega and Ellijay after passing the apple orchards and apple farmstands on Route 52 in Ellijay.

In addition to hiking, picnicking and viewing the Amicalola Falls, Amicalola Falls State Park features ranger-led interpretive programs where you can experience, learn about and touch and feel the local wildlife of the North Georgia Mountains up close. The owls that were being displayed were rehabilitated after injuries and are not able to be released into the wild again.

Amicalola Falls State Park has the access trail to the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail with the access trail to Springer Mountain beginning just steps behind the Amicalola Falls State Park visitors center.
